Chasteberry

Vitex agnus-castus is a Mediterranean native known as vitex, chaste tree (or chastetree), chasteberry, Abraham’s balm, lilac chastetre, or monk’s pepper. It is one of the few temperate-zone Vitex species in a genus of tropical and sub-tropical flowering plants. Alternative medical uses include the leaves and delicate stem development of the upper 10 cm (3.9 in), as well as the blooms and maturing seeds. The berries are said to be a tonic for both male and female reproductive systems. The leaves are thought to exert a similar effect, albeit to a lesser extent. The leaves, flowers, and/or berries of the plant can be consumed as a decoction, traditional tincture, cider vinegar tincture, syrup, elixir, or simply eaten as food.
